Mount Rinjani (by: Administrator - on Jul 15, 2009 for city Lombok) Mount Rinjani offers an excellent opportunity to Mount Rinjani which is the second highest volcanic in all of Indonesia and is one of the most significant peaks in the Pacific Ring of Fire. This area is beautiful as well as being an area of culture in the lower lands of the Gunung Rinjani National Park as well as some endangered and purely indigenous wildlife and towards the coned peak there is also the huge crater with the Lake Segara Anak. This incredible park was opened in 1997 protecting the trees, wildlife and the traditional villages that are found within the area. In these highlands you will find dense forests and undeveloped land of tropical eastern nature where as in the low lands what you will find is highly cultivated land including rice paddies and coffee, tobacco, cotton, cinnamon and vanilla plantations all growing in the most fertile soils of Lombok. Mount Rinjani is a sacred area both for the Balinese and the Sasak people of Lombok as it is a life source as well as a danger after the eruptions of 94, 95 and 96. The highest point of Mount Rinjani is a staggering 3,726 metres and is classed as an active volcano although another eruption is not expected anytime soon. The indigenous wildlife that you will find in the area include the endemic Belibis Duck as well as many species of fish in the lake which you will not find anywhere else in the world and in terms of traditional culture there are more than 20 villages which are located around the route up Mount Rinjani from Seneru and Sembalun which are the two access points to the trek routes of Mount Rinjani in the Gunung Rinjani National Park. Using these starting points there are three day and four day treks as well as the demanding 2 day trek all of which allow you to reach the summit in time for an incredible run rise looking out over the entire island of Lombok as well as the Gili Islands, Mount Agung of Bali and even as far as Sumbawa. These treks are regarded amongst trekkers as one of the best treks in all of south East Asia. Ecotourism is being promoted more and more around Indonesia and the Gunung Rinjani National Park including Mount Rinjani is one of the main bases for community activities with input from the New Zealand Government since 1999 who have been working hard to maintain the this beautiful area and cultural area and also offering tourists and trekkers as well as those who are totally new to trekking, the chance to experience the area and contribute to the ongoing safety of the Gunung Rinjani National Park. It is extremely easy to incorporate a visit to the Gunung Rinjani National Park and Mount Rinjani as a part of a holiday to Bali or mainland Lombok with a number of tours operating hotel pick up and drop off as well as all of the rest of your needs at low prices.
