Senggigi is the main beach resort area of Lombok and is located on the west coast towards the north of the island although still close to the capital city of Materam which is the administrative centre of the island. Senggigi offers some incredible white sand beaches as well as a selection of great beach villas and bungalows and some large international hotels all of which can be located on the cliffs overlooking the white sand beach and beautiful lagoons which surround the area as well as the incredible views of the landscapes of Lombok which many agree are some of the most beautiful in the country. Facilities for tourists are very good in the area and there are plenty of activities offered for all of the family as well as excellent transport options for reaching the area from Bali or for trips to Bali or the fabled Gili Islands located just off the coast of Lombok on the north coast. Families and couples often choose Senggigi over the similar areas of Bali as Senggigi really has all of the luxury and beauty of Nusa Dua but is not yet over crowded meaning that you can obtain a much more tranquil and secluded feel retaining its paradisiacal charm. Further more a general rule applicable to Senggigi is that you generally get more for your money then you would in Nusa Dua in terms of luxury as Senggigi does not yet have the prestige of its Balinese rival. This however is all about to change as Lombok opens its international airport meaning tourism is sure to increase all around the island. In terms of activities available around Senggigi, there is a wave for surfing which is not world class and is inconsistent but worth a look if you are interested. Diving and snorkelling is excellent around Senggigi although you will find world class diving and snorkelling a little further north in the Gili Islands. The restaurants offer everything from western fare to seafood and cuisine from all around the world in a delicate and beautiful atmosphere which will entice and seduce you into indulgence. Trips to the Gili Islands are well worth a go but as well as this island hopping opportunity there is also the mountain areas of Rinjani which offers sightseeing and hiking trips as well as visits to the local villages and the chance to purchase some of the local cloth and weaving which Lombok is so famous for. For a contrast in culture, landscapes and wildlife take the trip to the east coast of Bali where you will give you holiday flavour of Hindu grace and luscious tropical greenery.
