Last update Sanur Festival 2007 (by: Rosari Soendjoto - on Aug 21, 2007 for country Bali) Food Festival, the icon of SVF (FF participants short on stock) SANUR (19/8) - Food Festival is the routine agenda during the Sanur Village Festival (SVF), this food festival is one of the trade marks of SVF. The Food Festival committee had to closely select the candidates because so many restaurants were interested in this activity. This was stated by the Food Festival coordinator, I.B Alit Awatara, Sunday (19/8) yesterday. “We have prioritized the Food Festival tenants from last year, while we have closely selected for new applicants,” he claims. Many restaurants were interested to participate in this year’s Food Festival as part of the promotion event. Tenants of the Food Festival are famous restaurants with good reputation. “We are not pursuing quantity but quality,” he adds. There are 23 restaurants participating in the Food Festival this year is, whereas last year was only 16 tenants from restaurants in Sanur area. Food Festival provides the opportunity for the public to sample restaurant dishes. The price of food in the festival is very cheap thus affordable for all. “We set the most expensive selling price for each dish at Rp 20,000,” he claims. Not surprisingly, the food provided by Food Festival tenants are always sold out. While watching the music and entertainment on the main stage, visitors can enjoy the international cuisine. The tables provided by the committee are always fully booked by visitors of the festival. A Food Festival tenant, Massimo Sacco, states that he is overwhelmed by the visitors. Everyday he has a shortage in food stock, even before 10pm he closes, because the food stock is depleted. “We always have a food shortage due to the high demand during the event,” he says. His restaurant has entered as a tenant twice and he admits getting a good response from visitors. He says that he has booked starting from 6 months ago. “We will definitely participate again next year,” he says. Compared to last year, the number of visitors this year has increased significantly. Moreover, the number of sales has also increased, this is due to the cheap price offered during the Food Festival, focusing on promotion and entertainment during the SVF. SVF Committee chairman, I.B Sidharta Putra says, the Food Festival is a routine agenda of the SVF. “We must continue searching for the SVF style. Until this second SVF event, Food Festival has become one of the SVF icons,” he states. He strives to maintain the quality of Food Festival to preserve this event’s credibility. Cultural Parade for SVF closing SANUR (19/8) - Sanur Village Festival (SVF) committee admits he is satisfied with this annual agenda event in Sanur. “We are satisfied with the SVF II 2007 implementation,” the SVF committee chairman, I.B Sidharta Putra, said on Sunday (19/8) yesterday. In his closing speech he claims that SVF this year is much better and more well prepared compared to the event held last year. SVF II 2007 will be directly closed by Denpasar Mayor A.A Puspayoga, following the cultural parade. A number of tourism officials were also present such as Indonesia’s former minister of culture and tourism Gede Ardika and other VIPs. Thousands of people line up the streets to watch the cultural parade and closing of SVF. This year, SVF enters its second agenda and will become the annual event held in Sanur. This event started on 15 August until 19 August 2007. During the five days many activities, cultural, sport, music and competitions were held. Thousands of people were directly involved in SVF, both local and expatriate. This year the number of visitors to SVF has increased significantly compared to last year. Theer are more program and events this year with better quality and presentation. “We are grateful to all the parties involved especially the Denpasar City Government that greatly support us,” he claims. He attempted to improve many things after reflecting on the first event experience. He also admits many new things are presented to provide new entertainment using more professional methods of communication. He admits that the tourism promotion side in SVF is much stronger, considering that this event is for promotional purposes. “We must be extreme and focus on SVF theme. We do not want to be halfhearted in doing Sanur promotional activities,” he adds. Nevertheless, he also attempts to present the cultural side as the basis for Sanur tourism. According to him, the Food Festival will be an icon of the SVF. SVF continues to search for its form to discover its true icon. “We are still searching for the true form of SVF,” he adds. Various activities such as kite festival received a good response from visitors. Despite the great satisfaction, he admits there are still some flaws and he expects input and critics for the event next year. He hopes the issue of funding encountered by SVF can be the concern of the government. “We hope for more government concern for our event. Hopefully next year we can receive more funding from the government,” he concludes. Editor’s Note : Sanur Village Festival was established by the Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur. In its efforts to rehabilitate the image of Sanur as one of the first tourism destinations in Bali, various creative and fun-filled activities are combined into a five-day long event taking place within the Sanur area. Presenting arts, culture, sporting activities and many more, the Sanur Village Festival is expected to create a foundation for the local community.
