Hotel Reviews:

The White Rose is a quiet and intimate oasis in the heart of manically busy Kuta-Legian area of Bali's coastal area. The hotel is not only incredibly economical but has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. It's clean, safe and really quite beautiful for a "non-resort", older hotel. The staff are all friendly, helpful and very professional. The onsite spa, GiriLoka, is the best choice for a massage and/or facial (skip the less expensive "street" vendors -- cleanliness and privacy can be an issue. I recommend taking cabs to everyplace other than just up and down Legian Street for some local shopping -- the heat and humidity are unbelievable! Pack light -- attire is beach casual (T-shirts, shorts, and flipflops can all be purchased locally for next to nothing). Most restaurants are NOT air conditioned so leave the dress clothes at home. Be sure to book a car and driver (for about $50USD for entire day including a guide) for trips away from the coast up into the cooler mountains and Ubud. Beware of many unplanned stops to encourage your patronage of local crafts (jewelry, wood carving, paintings). The guide probably gets a kick-back but the "crafts" can all be purchased in the shops in Ubud for less. Do go to the Monkey Forest but DO NOT feed or attempt to interact with the residents -- they can be very aggressive!! See the palace, temple, and market in Ubud and have a meal outside the village at a restaurant overlooking the countryside and rice paddies. Bali is a country steeped in ritual and tradition that directs all behaviors. Be responsive and always polite (but firm) with street vendors. Courtesy and friendliness are the norm in all aspects of Balinese culture! Also, observe all security measures including locking all valuables in the hotel's complimentary safe deposit boxes and locking your room and balcony doors when in and out of the hotel. Enjoy your stay!!
